1. Challenge accepted!

If you’ve visited the NYC BigApps 3.0 site, you’ve probably noticed the Accept This Challenge button. This is a new button on our most recent challenges, and it means you now have a choice: accept the challenge, or follow it?

So what’s the difference, and why should you care? Well, we hope these buttons will allow you to express your interest in the challenge a little more precisely:

    • The Follow button uses a standard idea of following or subscribing. When you follow a challenge, you’re saying you want to stay informed. We’ll send you general updates via email, such as changes to the challenge dates or progress reports from challenge managers. You follow because you’re interested. You want to know what’s going on.
    • The Accept This Challenge button is a sort of caffeinated version of the Follow button. When you accept the challenge, you’re telling us that you’re probably going to enter a submission, or you’re at least going to think about it. So in addition to the general emails about the challenge, you also want tips and tools for submitters. You want all the details — even the technical stuff. You’re hungry. You’re ready.

Whatever you choose, we promise you won’t get a ton of email, and you can always unfollow and refollow at any time.
